Knock out (KO) of the voltage gated potassium channel, Kv1.3, produces mice that are resistant to weight gain when placed on a high-fat diet and the mice are considered to be “Super-smellers”. My research involves uncovering the link between olfactory ability and metabolic behaviors through manipulation of the Kv1.3 channel. Specifically, can I replicate the unique behavioral phenotype found in Kv1.3 KO mice in the wild-type strain by blocking channel conductance?
